2016 FORMULA DRIFT ROUND 7: IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY

FD Irwindale October 7-8

The series returns to Irwindale Speedway for the final round of the 2016 Formula Drift season. Again, the future of the track is still uncertain. The land has been a subject of development for almost five years and places the raceway's future in peril. The track is the genesis of Formula Drift and has acted as the grand finale for many years. It would be disheartening to see the property developed and losing the spectacle of this race track.

The series comes to the raceway with a tight race in the championship. Chris Forsberg, Frederic Aasbo, and Vaughn Gittin Jr are within striking distance of the championship.

Chris Forsberg came leading the championship by a narrow margin. Aasbo could take his chance away at a moments notice.

And as Top 16 came around competition day, the opportunity for victory was narrowed. During a battle with Pat Mourdant, Forsberg was unable to follow and crashed into the treatrous inner bank.

With the crash, his championship looked like easy pickings for Frederic Aasbo.

It would not be Irwindale if it wasn't without a wild card. Matt Field had a strong charge to the top. His victory against Aasbo sealed the championship for Chris Forsberg.

The event was full of carnage.
