Golden Gate Drift: Round 1
The 2014 competition season has officially started. The NorCal Formula Drift ProAm series held its first round at Stockton 99 Raceway. For the second year, we come back for GGD at Stockton 99.
Jose has been running at this track for many years. It's good to see him drift the banked track. His car is still sporting the drift damages he accrued over the past few months. Rear window is still missing after a spectacular hit at Winter Jam.
Practice went well for Jose. He was able to shake out his car and reacquaint himself to the track. Although he ran all his body panels in the start of the day, the car decided to lose it all piece by piece.
By the end of the day he lost his bumpers and side skirts. This car tries to get naked at every drift event. Unfortuneatly for Jose, his transmission blew a seal before his qualifying practice and he was not able to run the competition day.
But not to put the day to waste, we stayed and supported friend of the team Faruk Kugay. Faruk had his S14 built at Limitless Motorsports and it's a badass car.
The car turns brand new Achilles tires to smoke. Unfortunately, the turbo burnt a seal and the car no longer was making boost. As qualifying came around, Faruk decided to remove the compressor and run NA for qualifying.
Without the turbo, the car probably lost over 100HP. The weather came to "help" and the rain allowed Faruk to lay down a crazy qualifying run.
We wrapped up the day after qualifying. We got a chance to see all the different competitors' skill level and car builds. Jose has some repairs to make and we will be back strong.
