TD Pro-Am Round 3: Stockton 99
Another day, another chance for that Formula D license. This time the round was held at the challenging Stockton 99 Speedway. MINT is no stranger to this banked NASCAR track. Jose won the Stockton 99 series last year and competed the year before.
The day was nice and hot and the all the drivers were excited for the change in venue.
The heat did prove to be a problem for Sherry and she started the day with a busted radiator cap during practice. Repairs were made and she went back out to run the course.
Jose sustained quite a bit of damage at Summer Jam. In the short time between, new wiring and a front crash structure went into the car. There wasn't enough time to repair the body damage so the car looked quite battered at this event.
Our buddy Tyler, also a Stockton 99 Series veteran, returned to the ThunderDrift competition missing some body panels after Summer Jam.
Qualifying started and only Jose was able to make it into the Top 16. Sherry's differential decided to punch a gaping hole into the cover which meant she was out for the rest of the day. Jose's new crash structure changed the feel of his car and was suffering from handling problems.
Marcus Fry and his LS powered 510 qualified second, but his car with giving him troubles which put him out during Top 8 battles.
Oregon driver Matt Coffman showed his skill at this challenging track, but lost out in Top 16 with car troubles.
Our pal Matt Madrigali show what he was capable of when he defeated Tyler Wolfson after a tight OMT battle. At the end of the day, he took home third place.
This round was very different. The new venue was a challenge for all the drivers. The course started with a high speed banked entry entering into a tight infield. The rough uneven surface was new for some and it definitely shook up the field.
We have some damage to repair, but be sure to catch the team at HELLAFLUSH x WORDUP! at Solano County Fairgrounds.
