Sonoma Drift: Round 1
The 2013 competition season has started. Kicking off the year is the Sonoma Drift Competition. 2013 is a huge year for the ever changing Sonoma Drift venue. This year they are adding much more skidpad events and opening the Infineon Raceway every month for open track action. Being able to drive on this national level raceway is a great privilege for amateur drifters.
For this round, MINT drivers Sherry and Chris entered the competition with two years of Summer Jam experience. This does not mean that the course was easy for them. The competition rules had specific clipping points and speed requirements that were a challenge for our drivers.
Such a beautiful day and wonderful track.
Chris probably had the least power at this event, but that did not hold him back at all. Good car control put him in fourth for qualifying.
Sherry used her V8 to good use. During practice, she was clocked at one of the top entry speeds.
Andy driving his SR20DET powered Miata hard.
Will Griffith pushing his 302 powered 240SX hatchback while being chased by Joe Busto in his LS1 powered S14.
Matt Madrigali putting down serious pressure on ThundDrift SuperAM competitor Palmer Sanderson. Palmer clipped some cones during his qualifying run, but that did not stop him from pushing as hard as he can.
As always, tandem battles brought out some hard driving and close battles.
Thank you to Sonoma Drift for holding another awesome event. We will definitely be around for Round 2. More photos here and from doubleZERO.
