FD Atlanta Round 2 May 6-7
After the carnage of Long Beach, Round 2 at Road Atlanta had a lot to live up to. How would the weather hold?
Thursday had a little bit of moisture and affected both Pro and Pro 2 practices. However, the weather didn't stay through the weekend. By the evening of Pro 2 qualifying, the elements appeared to be on the drivers' sides . By Friday morning, all drivers were settling into the groove of a dry track. We loved the flowing smoke from all the cars.
Most drivers seemed to have worked out any kinks in their programs after Long Beach. Drivers looked confident and the cars looked smooth at Road Atlanta.
With that being said, it wouldn't have been a proper round of Formula Drift without it's drama.
Mad Mike as usual put on a great show for the fans with some of the best runs of the weekend.
At the final round of last year's Formula Drift, crowd favorite Alex Hohnadell wrecked horribly. This season he's back better and as stylish as ever in his newly Get Nuts Laboratory S14. Alec has shown incredible potential last year, and we hope to see him progress even further this year.
We were really excited to see the Tanner Foust for another season. Although a limited season, we are glad to see a veteran return.
Chelsea Denofa came into Atlanta with a win from Long Beach. He ran into car troubles and was taken out by a smooth and aggressive Kenneth Moen.
Pro 2 drivers had their own trial by fire at Road Atlanta. Long Beach is a difficult season start for Pro; Atlanta is challenge for Pro 2. It is a technical course with a testing entry.
Vaughn Gittin Jr returned to form with domination on the classic Formula Drift course. Gittin finished the round with both the top qualifier and round win.
The podium from Long Beach was no where near the Atlanta podium. We are going into Round 3 at Orlando Speedworld with a wide points spread. This championship looks to be a good one. Anybody can still take it.
